Thank you for registering for the African Studies Association Annual Teachers’ Workshop! We know this year has been incredibly challenging for teachers and we’re very happy you have decided to attend! This year’s virtual format has enabled us to offer an unprecedented number of sessions and we’re excited about all the options.
As a reminder, the full program will run from 11:55 AM to 7:00 PM, Eastern Time (8:55 AM to 4 PM PST) on Saturday, November 13.
Here are your instructions to participate in the full day of teacher-focused activities.
Login by THURSDAY to test your access.
If you have trouble, contact Lmoats@fas.harvard.edu.
Thursday:
Step 1: Double check to ensure that you've set up your MyASA username and password and can access the workshop platform. Directions:
-
Go to the 2021 Conference page on the African Studies Association website: https://africanstudies.secure-platform.com/a
-
Click on the orange box that says "View the 2021 Annual Meeting Schedule". A window will may open asking you to log in if you aren't already.
-
Log in using the MyASA profile username and password that you created during your registration. (If you did not complete this step by November 9th as requested, you will not have access to the workshop.)
-
Click on the “Teachers’ Workshop” tab. If you can see the "Teachers Workshop" tab, you should be all set for Saturday!
-
From here you can view the full schedule and descriptions of each workshop.
Step 2: Make sure you have a Zoom account
Many of you already have Zoom accounts, but if you don’t, sign up for a free one here: https://zoom.us/
Saturday Morning
Step 3: Log in to the conference page
A few minutes before 11:55 AM EST (9 AM PST), go to the African Studies Association Annual Conference page to log in. You will use your MyASA login. This will give you access to ALL the workshop sessions.
Step 4: Join the Opening Session
All the events for the day will be listed on a single page. When you’re ready to attend a session, just click on its title and you’ll find yourself on a page with more information about that session. Fifteen minutes before the session begins, you’ll see a blue button that says Join Session. This will drop you in the waiting room for that session. Once each session starts, you’ll be free to move from one to another, as you would in a live conference.
NOTE: If you click on a workshop link and get a pop-up asking for your username and login, it probably means you are not logged into Zoom. Sign in using your Zoom username and password, NOT your ASA credentials.
If you have any trouble after you have logged into the conference page or when you are in a workshop, look for a blue and white chat icon in the lower right corner of the screen. Tech help is available via live chat.
We look forward to seeing you on Saturday!
